The Story of Manny Hattan

Manny Hattan spent his formative years behind the counter of his grandfather's delicatessen in New York City, watching as the city sprouted up around their famous midtown eatery.  Names like LaGuardia and Rockefeller weren't landmarks... but adopted Uncles to the boy behind the counter, who was small in stature but big of heart.

Grandpa Hattan groomed Manny so that someday he might take over the family business, teaching him the secret recipes that made the Delicatessen & Restaurant the toast of Broadway.  Although Manny had a passion for football, most afternoons were spent learning and perfecting the art of preparing and serving delicatessen treats.

Behind the counter early one morning, Grandpa unexpectedly choked on a pickle and died... leaving Manny the sole treasurer of the secret family recipes.  He wanted to make his Grandpa proud, but New York wasn't where he wanted to stake his ground.

Armed with his gumption, his know-how, and much smaller pickles, Manny Hattan headed west, or was it south... maybe southwest?

Anyway, he landed in Austin, Texas hoping to land a spot playing football for the UT Longhorns.  Imagine, a New York kid playing football in Texas?!  Well, the coaches couldn't either... and despite years of beefing up on corned beef and pastrami, Manny was far too small for football.

"Maybe I can bring Grandpa's recipes to Austin," Manny was heard saying as he walked off the field.

Not even the best matchmakers could have imagined how perfect the marriage between real New York Delicatessen and Texas friendly could be... so leave your barbecue and salsa at the door, and welcome to Manny Hattan's!
